How to Buy Salvaged Computers to Resell

You can get great deals on computers that have been salvaged, missing parts or just need a little cleaning up. Turn them for a good profit after investing a little money or time. I will show you one of the ways I do it that seems to work on a continuous basis.

Steps

  1. You can find incomplete or salvaged unit computers on most large auction sites. They will be titled as parts only or non-working. Most of the time the computers will not have hard drives or power cords.   Sometimes they will, just depends on the unit.   Browse over the units on the sites and then go to the beginning of the site to see what is up for auction that will be ending the soonest. Here is where you can get some great deals.  You will have competition for these as others have the same ideas you have about restoring them for cheap.  Choose either laptop or desktops for your bidding and find the least expensive unit that looks like a clean unit to sell. First thing,  make sure screen is clear,  no major damage and check the shipping cost. It will be on each unit. I like to go for the laptops under $100 and Desktop CPUs for under $40.00. They will not have hard drives and most the time no power cords for laptops. If there are only 3 or less bidders on the unit, save it to your watch and keep an eye on this unit. Check and make sure the shipping is not out of line.   If you like the way the deal is,   click and purchase the unit.
  2. After you receive the unit, check if over and make sure it fits the description as in the ad.
  3. You will probably have to buy a hard drive, power cord or both. I simply use Amazon for this. You can get a brand new power cord for under 15 bucks and hard drives depend on the unit. I paid $12 for a 40gb for a laptop the other day. Sometimes you might have to step up and pay more but make sure total price for laptop does not exceed $150.00 and desktop $60.00. This will allow you enough profit margin on your units.
  4. Order your power cord or hard drive from a large auction site to save you money rather than buying brand new from a retailer. After receiving the parts you need, you can now sell your unit.    The absolute best place to sell it is on social media sites or classified ad sites. Select the nearest location to you when the ad ask you what location you are in. Download 4 pictures of your unit and a great description. Pictures are very important.     You will triple the chance of selling your unit with 4 good pictures.

Tips

  • Make sure you buy Brand Name Products. Buying an off brand computer will lessen your chances of making a good profit. If customers do not know the name,  they will not buy.
  • Have fun with your business. A happy salesperson sells more units.
