How to Choose a Computer

Choosing a computer doesn't have to be difficult. In fact, it can be an enjoyable experience.

Steps

  1. Decide between a laptop or a desktop. If you're the kind of person who travels frequently, or if it is to be used at work or on the couch at home, needing the information and programs it has, then you are going to need a laptop. Otherwise, it is best to stick with a desktop.
  2. Think about what you need in a computer. If you are a gamer, you are going to want more video RAM and a high-end processor with excellent cooling capabilities. It should also have extra ports for game controllers and upgrades. If you are a business person, you will need a good wireless Internet connection, a strong processor and good amount of RAM.
  3. Decide on a brand. In truth, almost all brands are good, and they get their parts from the same sources. What you should look for is something that fits your budget, from a company that has a reputation for good post-sale service.

Tips

  • Don't impulse buy. It should take you a few weeks from when you start looking to when you actually buy your new computer.
  • In a year or two, your computer will be worth half of what you'll have paid, so get the latest model they have of whatever brand you want
  • Remember that the biggest number is not always the best. Make sure the brand you choose has a flawless aftercare track record this is very important!
